VOICES OF COURAGE

Kathrin Henneberger is a climate justice activist and co-founder of the Institute of Environmental Justice e.V from the Rhine region in Germany. This region causes the highest CO 2 emissions in Europe. Until 2021 Kathrin was the spokesperson of the European Climate Alliance "Ende Gelände" and is currently an MP for the Green Party in Germany. Since 2015 the European Climate Alliance "Ende Gelände" - which literally means: until here but no further - has been occupying opencast lignite mines with thousands of people and defended and saved the famous Hambach Forest. Kathrin has been committed to its preservation - whether as an activist on the ground living in a tree house or as a campaigner and spokeswoman - for years.

Kathrin was repeatedly threatened with lawsuits by the energy company RWE. She was banned from any RWE property, especially the opencast mines, and was forced to sign a cease-and-desist declaration, which she refused. In addition to her local commitments in Germany, Kathrin has been supporting the negotiations at the UN climate conferences for over 10 years. She is currently co-writing a book on climate justice and feminism.
